PGI Plays Newfoundland & Labrador
Bally Haly Golf Course, St. John’s
Tournament Date: June 13 - 15, 2012
In Newfoundland and Labrador, the PGI is held at a number of venues depending on the activity in St. John’s in the second week of June each year. Otherwise known as ‘spring planting week,’ when the last chance of frost in the ground has passed, golfers take the opportunity to get out to their first – and favorite – tournament of the year.
PGI Newfoundland and Labrador has three components over three days. Day 1 - A Family Literacy Festival, celebrating the value of early and lifelong learning, kicks off the activities. Day 2 – The hosting of the Night Before Event to celebrate the successes of learners, PGI Sponsors, a night before gathering for golfers and participants of the PGI golf tournament and to recognize and entertain the many PGI sponsors and supporters. And finally, Day 3 - it’s up early to answer the call of the greens: the Charity Golf Tournament itself, with its range of team challenges and camaraderie, hole-sponsored activities, celebration of the Telegram Learner Achievement award winner, recognition awards, prizes – and surprises – along the way!
The 19th hole and a PGI luncheon rounds out the golf day activities, and then it is all over…except, of course, that this golf week is also iceberg-alley week, when outside the St. John’s narrows you will see the dance of icebergs and whales. Best you come and see this one for yourselves!
