PGI Plays New Brunswick
Royal Oaks Golf & Country Club, Moncton
Wednesday, August 15 & Thursday, August 16, 2012
2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick becoming the benefactor of the proceeds raised by the events associated with PGI NB. Our organizational model includes corporate and community leaders known as the PGI Cabinet. The Cabinet develops and implements the events that have collectively raised more than $1.47 million for literacy programs in our province since 2002.
The funds raised by PGI NB have and continue to support adult learning classrooms, one-to-one tutoring programs, storytents, libraries, family literacy programs and many others.
PGI NB has six events that take place over two days.
FamFest
The events kick off with FamFest, a literacy festival for families that includes games, activities and entertainment highlighting the many aspects of literacy.
VIP Reception
As we roll into the evening we have a VIP reception for our sponsors on the stage of the Capitol Theatre. During the reception we award the Dan Skaling Award to a deserving individual for their contributions to literacy.
Eveningside
Day one ends with our Eveningside Show which is filled with entertainment including country music, comedians, jazz and blues bands, readings, ballet and much more. We award our Goguen Champlain Adult Learner Achievement Awards to our three recipients during the show where they receive a certificate and a cheque for $100.
Buffet Breakfast
Day two begins with a buffet breakfast with lots of prizes. Instructions for the day are presented by a special guest then golfers are treated to a skydiving show before heading out to the greens.
Golf Day
Golf is 18 holes with a shotgun start. Along the course, golfers can bet on their putting and birdie skills, get a video analysis of their swing, engage in various activities with literacy organizations from around the province and play for titles of winning team, longest drive, most sportsmanlike and many others.
The day winds down with the 19th hole on the deck with refreshments and mussels; then an evening banquet featuring live and silent auctions and our Poet Laureate.
